A New Lebanon now seems to be possible, even amid all of these current troubles. This land once had a prosperous history of international trade, and a well-justified reputation for good food and hospitality. Is there a path back to those good days — and a New Lebanon visible on the horizon?

Outside influences have been a heavy burden in Lebanon. Fortunately the overthrow of Assad in Syria in 2024 removed one source of damaging interference in Lebanese life. Iran has also been active, having formed Hezbollah in Lebanon during 1982 to attack Israel. Those efforts have been a source of friction and fighting ever since. But Israel’s invasion of Southern Lebanon has weakened Hezbollah’s military capabilities.
